rendered plan=done

The rendered plan is finished. I actually really enjoyed doing it…until tonight. I didn’t really work on it at all this weekend and with just a few things left to do, it was more of a hassle than anything. Well that and I’m just tired. Anyways, I’m really happy with how it came out.

I learned how to make textures (the stainless steel, carpet, tile, etc.) which was pretty cool. I also learned how to go download textures. Impressive? Ehh..

I’m quite tired so you just get pictures instead of words which you probably like more anyways heh.

Lesson Learned

So after working on the PS assignment for quite some time yesterday and saving the images to upload to my uber cool new blog…I managed to save my files as a jpg instead of the psd file i needed. So tonight, when I opened my drawing…yeah, jpg= un-editable. I’m pretty sure thats not how its supposed to be done. Luckily (and not so luckily) I have the file saved on my USB drive. The unlucky part–and its really very un-lucky- I didn’t save the file on my USB drive after I had worked on it. yeah…bye bye pretty kitchen and nice office cabinets. :( I learned my lesson! Bet ya that won’t be happening again. Oh well. Good things do come out of mess up though–I was able to complete the kitchen and office areas in just about an hour tonight! Woot! Thats like 3 hours quicker than yesterday. I guess it pays to know what you want to do in the space (or having practice from the day before).

Anyways, no pictures tonight as I am still working on the project. Its come along but it has quite a long way to go. Old  goal of being done today went out the window when I had to re-do the 2 rooms….New goal is to be able to print on saturday….we’ll see how this one goes. Least I know how to save correctly now!

In progress

So my PS (photoshop) assignment is to render a floor plan. Most people in class chose to render one of the floors from the ID 4 project. Mine is still in progress but I had a lot of fun with it this afternoon!  It isn’t due until Tuesday…my current goal is to have the plan rendered and printed by Friday so that I can have the weekend to mount it on a board…we’ll see how that pans out…Hopefully well!

Here is the whole floor plan. As you can see, I have a lot of white that needs to be rendered…but its on its way!

Here’s a close up of the Kitchen which I spent a lot of time on today

See the tile floor? Isn’t great? I’d love to take credit for it but ultimately John helped me with that. What do you think of the stainless steel appliances? I did those on my own! I made stainless steel!! I searched for a stainless steel PS texture, followed the tutorial online and voila! Stainless Steel! yeah!!

The other room I worked on a lot today is the office.

The Upper and Lower cabinets just might be my favorite thing on there. I love how  defined the uppers cabinets and made them cast a shadow onto the lowers. Looks pretty real.

I’ll keep updating this as I continue on with this.

When I have time, I’ll upload some of my work from previous semesters. :)

Let me know what you think!

ID 4 Project

As you read earlier, the project for ID 4 is throughout the other classes. I thought I’d explain the concept for my project and the assignment.

We were given the shell of a building. It was to be located somewhere (anywhere) on the East Coast of the USA, in a town which you would typically find row houses. We had to choose the city and the neighborhood in which you’d find it. It is a three story home. The first floor is a retail/boutique space. Our clients just purchased the building, combined 2 of the homes into one, and want to renovate before moving in. We had to come up with the boutique for the first floor and relate that to the residence on the 2nd and 3rd floors.

My home is located in Providence, RI. There is a jewelry district slightly south of downtown which is the cutest thing ever (thanks google streetview).

For my retail space, I decided to have the couple own a vintage jewelry boutique. The couple wants the vintage feel with modern conveniences throughout their residence. They also want a lot of hollywood glam, dark jewel tones, and an overall vintage glam feel. My inspiration boards are pretty cool if I do say so myself. I will upload them in the next few days so you can see for yourself.

welcome

So i’ve decided to make a blog…exciting? Well, I think so… for a few reasons….

Reasons like- to show off my amazing super cool assignments and so that everyone can see how my project progress from start to finish or how I come up with the things i do.  Also so that you can visit as often as you want (like 18000x a day :) ) and so I can share with family and friends from all over. It will also be a nice way for me to document my last year and a half of school plus stuff I remember from previous years.

Here’s a quick catch up of the last few years of school:

I’m in the 2nd part of my 3rd year of school at DISD. Thats right, I graduate December of next year. How did that happen so quickly?! Who knows? Anyways, obviously, since this is now my 6th semester there and i’ve completed 23 (i just counted!!) classes with another 5 in progress..holy cow…I have a lot of projects and cool stuff (or a lot of stuff collecting dust) My current semester has produced some of the coolest assignments so far, at least in my opinion. I hope to upload pictures of the progress I’m making on stuff so you can see that I’m really not avoiding you, I just have a lot of homework and projects :)

My current classes are:

  • ID 4 (a continuation of space planning, finishes, etc)
  • Lighting Design
  • Digital Presentation (Photoshop, portfolio)
  • CAD 3 (autoCAD)
  • Environmental Studies

The classes this semester are combined fairly well. We work on our ID 4 project in our CAD class. Different elements get turned in in each class but they are basically the same timeline. Currently in digital presentation, we are working on rendering a floor plan. Most of us chose part of the ID 4 project to render (which I did-you can see it in the next post). Our final project for Lighting Design is a light plan for our ID 4 project. Environmental Studies–well, we have to take GE classes so we can be an accredited school and so we can graduate with Bachelors degrees. 4 out of 5 connected isn’t so bad…

Stay tuned for more updates…this blogging thing is new to me.

Oh, and feel free to leave comments…I like comments :)
